People to write about:
-Robert Fannin – preacher, bohemian like wife, Viola? House behind Holton properties
I stayed with them when Mommy and Daddy went to Grandpa Lee’s funeral
Mrs. Jean Bates – one of our Sunday School teachers later after Aunt Ethel. She was very special and seemed to take a liking to us Cox nuts. Her husband, Bob, also spent extra time with all of us on Sunday School trips and activities.
Sunday school people:
Johnny and Genova Wright
?? Turner
?? Coffee
Glenna Cox
Incidents to make sure we cover:
Shirley grapevine
Bobby getting singed when he lit a barbecue with gasoline?
Shirley oven eyebrows singed
Shirley Airforce eardrums
House fire – birds perished, sitting in car while …, dog,Ginger? , clothes burned on one side, pictures found,
Shirley throwing her coat in laundry room and it was saved. I hung my coat nicely and it was burned. New coats Mom had just gotten for us on a trip I went shopping with her. My coat had white rabbit fur pompoms on the ties from the neck. I thought that was the prettiest thing
Daddy helping me plant many pots of begonias and letting them grow out on a table outside during summer at house that burned
Mervel Fannin and Bertha – 8 girls? Finally one boy
Breaking beans with Viola Beverley . Troy and Viloa with Doris and ???
Canning outside – tomatoes, peaches, cole slaw, green beans
Daddy did green tomatoes
Washed jars outside on big table, then boiled them in big wash tub over fire with tub up on bricks. We kept sliding pieces of wood up to keep it burning. Also done for canning
Skinned tomatoes for canning by pouring hot water over them and then peeling.
Grape juice – daddy did
Jelly
Digging potatoes – I didn’t do much of that
Bringing in coal
Painting outdoor toilet at linkhart house
Pear tree? Iris flowers, plum tree??
Playing base ball with the little kids and daddy where house burned
Brewers lived behind Holton house – had a garage fixed cars – Jeanie, Carolyn ??
Whille living at big Holton house, Me, Larry, Carolyn walking to Fairborn on path along railroad tracks, some man sneaked up behind us as me and Carolyn each have a hold of Larry’s hands with Larry in middle. We were walking along to the park and library. Man grabbed our hands that were holding Larry. Such screaming and scratching you’ve never heard. The man got Carolyn down and started to get into her pants, but somehow or other I guess all that crying, kicking, screaming, scratching and hollering scared him off. Needless to say, we ran back home.
Then sometime later, I was out on the front stoop polishing some white shoes when a car pulls up in front of the house and when I looked up – Oh my goodness! It was that same man! You never saw such a scramble in your life – I was up and in that screen door so fast…. I told Daddy and Mommy that was the man –Daddy took off to find him but by then he had driven off. I can still feel that fear in my stomach when I think of that. Wonder if Carolyn Brewer is still alive and does she remember that incident.
Other Brewer incidences – somebody was watching some love making from an outside window???
Playing jacks on Thelma Spencer’s??? front step. Lived in nice big house to the left of big Holton house in Wrightview.
Pat and Bessie
Red head – Sue ????
Hanging clothes out Holton properties – longest clothes line I could believe – out there standing on a bucket and pinning clothes to the line or helping Mommy by handing her clothes pins
10 years old finding a quarter and daddy not believing – I cried he swatted me once on but and said “I’ll teach you to cry over nothing” That was my one and only time I remember being hit as a kid or ever!
Incident with tommy and razor blade cutting news item for school – house across from Sarah Childers grocery store.
While living at big Holton house – Roy Rogers and Dale Evans show outside Willie Miller grocery store – we walked down to it.
Willie Miller – ? adopted a kid named Muscles. Willie and wife ?? had Alton, son, and some baby girl ??
Red headed kid lived beside Bessie and Pat named Sue Sloan
The other Beverley kidw were Diane, Mary Sue, and when Viola was “really old”, she had a boy. Even though I was 10 years younger, I remember the IGA store Tommy worked at and Willie Miller and how much time Bobby spent w/him. If only I remembered just ONE time getting “swatted”…if only!
