Blog Update

Hi

Just a mini update on the blog at http://www.coxfamilymemories.com

If you click on any of the off spring of  Robert and Goldie, their off spring have a page which is listed on the right.

That is another place you can make comments regarding them.

Please remind each other about their memories and information – that means kids, grand kids, etc.  We want to hear from all grand kids, and about great grand kids, etc.

 Have fun!

Myrtle

Blog Registration and Login Help

Hi Guys,

I have removed two of our gang who are not interested in our fun.  So here are things as they stand now.  Let me know if you need me to change anything.

I have started the blog at http://www.coxfamilymemories.com  This is just one possible way for us to collect our book data and memories.

I am not sure this is the best WordPress blog theme, but we will start with it.  I may make some changes to make it easier to post and all that, but if I do change it, we won’t lose any information.

1 -Go to http://www.coxfamilymemories.com
2 -Go to the bottom of the page and click on login.
3 -That will take you to WordPress login page.
4 -If you have not registered, Go to the register link under the login box
5 -Put in the information of your name and email and password.
6 -You will get an email with your initial password, which you can copy and paste into the login WordPress box.
7 -Then whenever you want to login, you just go to the login link at the bottom of the page at  http://www.coxfamilymemories.com  and log in.
8 -This will take you to a dashboard of the wordpress back office which will allow you to change your password under profile – if you want.
9 -You will be able to see Write Manage and Comment tabs.  You may just click on Write and you will see a posting box where you just write and hit the publish button
10-I put categories which you can select under your post and then click on the save or publish button over to right of your post. or…
11 Once you are logged in, you can look at the top of the page and see “View site”.  Right click on that and choose “open in new tab”.  That allows you to click on that tab and refresh to see what you wrote.
12 -Or you can go to http://www.coxfamilymemories.com and click on any page and there will be a comment box where you may write.
13 -If you think I should put more or different categories or pages, just let me know.
You can just comment on which ever page you want or tell me if you want another page added.
What I hope we can do is put all basic information about each person on their page.  So, for instance, Martha will put in her full name, birthdate, where born with address if known, where she went to schools, graduated from, who she married, kids birth details, where and when etc. Then all memories and whatever she wants to put up there about all through her life, she can.  I would hope to see all kinds of things from childhood up to present day.
Don’t get “befuddled” by any of it, just write and remember you can post and put in pictures and videos  or whatever.

Anybody who doesn’t want to write on the blog, just send me your information and history and stories, etc in any way you want.  I will put them on blog and then into the book.

I have a suggestion to make the deadline March 30, 2009.  So everything will need to be done by then so I can try to get the book done.

If you have not discovered this great tool which allows you to save any passwords and find them so easily, I suggest you go to http://www.roboform.com and download the free tool.  There is no need to purchase anything.  Download and install it and it puts a little green icon on your tool bar in the right lower corner of your computer desktop.

I have used this for years and can’t imagine not having it.  You can put in every password and website you can think of and then just click on that little icon and click on logins and see your list.

If anyone has access to your computer you can put a password lock, but you have to remember that one lock word.  Anyway, there are video tutorials on the website if you need extra help.

Well, I must get some dinner on the table.

Hope all of you are enjoying the Holiday preparations.

I had fun with Pat and his Mother decorating our tree (see Shirley, I got it done even though we missed having your help this year) J

 Much Love,

Myrtle

It’s Missy

Just wanted to let everyone know that I think often of everyone and hope everyone is doing well.  I know times now-a-days are sooo busy; but I would love to have a party some time where we can all get together and just talk, eat and drink a soda or two.  This is a really neat thing you have put together Myrtle and I can’t wait to read what the rest of the family posts.

Hello Gang!

Myrtle in better hair do
Myrtle - good Hair days.

Well, here we go guys!  Remember, this is just one means for us to record our memories, history, pictures and whatever….  This is definitely a work in progress.

As I said in the email, after talking and reminiscing on Thanksgiving Day with Gary and then Vickie, about our family fun and tragedies, somehow or other we came up with the idea of making a book.  That led to this blog to be used as one means of putting our memories here in any old way you want.  Then at some point, I will collect all the thoughts and information and put it together to make up our book.  Then the blog can just keep on going and we can keep adding current life, ie., new kids, their activities, new happenings, etc.

Of course this will require all of us contributing memories and history.  I asked each one to vote on the blog title or offer another suggestion.  No one gave a suggestion, but I had five votes for CoxFamilyMemories.com and one vote for CoxCantrellFamily.com.  That’s how we came up with this blog domain and title.

So after chatting with some of you, it seems we will need a deadline for the content for the book.  I think the book itself should probably start with some history of Goldie and Robert family backgrounds with as much genealogy as possible through their life as we can describe or remember or get information.  Then the book could go on through with all of our lives and memories through memories related to Mom’s (Goldie) demise and funeral.  What do you think?

What do you think should be the deadline?  Is January 30, 2009 too soon or too late?

For the book, remember anybody can give their information in any format and in any order they want.  So if some would prefer to just send emails to me, I will add them to the blog for others to see and maybe add extra input on that memory.  Also, if some would prefer to just write their memories on paper and send them to me, I will transcribe them.  Or.. if some want to record them on audio tape or on their computer, that is ok too.

I think I will set a page or category for everyone who contributes and a tag for everyone we mention.  Does that sound reasonable.  Or do you think it is better to put a page for everyone mentioned.  These things can be adjusted.

My last thought and plea is that everyone have fun with this.  Please don’t take this as Myrtle’s book.  Please don’t find offense if it looks like some body or some incident is not covered.  It is up to all of us to make a comment and let me know if I miss something or forget something.  It is all in fun and family spirit and no one will be slighted, intentionally.  So if anyone has a thought or desire about what or how the book or blog should unfold, or you think I am doing something wrong, PLEASE let me know.  It will not hurt my feelings.  If it affects everyone, I will get a concensus.
