Wonder what year.  How old were they.  They didn’t have grey hair and I doubt they dyed their hair.
It is funny, but this is the way I always remember them.

I am pretty sure this was Grandma, Grandpa and Roger on a visit to Ohio when I was home from the Army.  Don’t know which house.  Hope Vickie or Martha can remember where we lived when you were this age.

Here is another picture of Grandma and Grandpa standing at the back of their house.  I know the well is back there too.  They don’t look much different – just a little older.  I do hope I can go back through some of my original pictures and match up some dates.

I know we can find the date for this and I think I have a picture of Grandpa helping Vickie and Anita at the well.

1958, I think this was in the house that burned.  I have on a dress that Mom had taken me to Dayton to get for the school year.  That also is when we got my coat with the pom-pom ties.  I was too neat and hung it in my closet.  Everything was burned on one side as they hung in the closet.  The closet was near the chimney that caught fire.

In 1961, this looks like a bunch of little geniuses at work.  Not sure at what!  It must have been on a Sunday after church.  Vickie and Martha look all dressed up.

Christmas 1958 or 59

I recall one Christmas Eve night-  I of course was sleeping in the same room as Myrtle.  We were living in the Linkhart house with sooo many rooms and the winding staircase and the two seater outhouse.  (This was also where Gary burnt his little _eter (he was a kid) on the stove while taking a bath in a tub in the kitchen).

Back to my recollection-  I began to wake up and heard moaning and complaining and words telling me to go back to sleep so Santa could make his visit, so I guess I did and the next morning what did I find?  I received a beautiful ballerina doll all dressed in a beautiful tutu, w/tights, shoes, and a beautiful lavender dress and pink cape, both covered in organza.  My not so secret Santa “Myrtle”, was trying to sew these beautiful clothes and wanted me to be surprised on Christmas morning.  My secret Santa was only a kid herself, yet even then she was thinking of others.

I still treasure that doll, even though she has not aged well.  Bobby and I had a disagreement and fought over my doll.  She was injured (broken leg) and over the years of grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc. my doll incurred other traumas, but through everything, I have her still today…2008 & ALMOST 2009!  (I’m not sure which of us aged better…I hope it’s me)!

Hello Gang!

Myrtle in better hair do
Myrtle - good Hair days.

Well, here we go guys!  Remember, this is just one means for us to record our memories, history, pictures and whatever….  This is definitely a work in progress.

As I said in the email, after talking and reminiscing on Thanksgiving Day with Gary and then Vickie, about our family fun and tragedies, somehow or other we came up with the idea of making a book.  That led to this blog to be used as one means of putting our memories here in any old way you want.  Then at some point, I will collect all the thoughts and information and put it together to make up our book.  Then the blog can just keep on going and we can keep adding current life, ie., new kids, their activities, new happenings, etc.

Of course this will require all of us contributing memories and history.  I asked each one to vote on the blog title or offer another suggestion.  No one gave a suggestion, but I had five votes for CoxFamilyMemories.com and one vote for CoxCantrellFamily.com.  That’s how we came up with this blog domain and title.

So after chatting with some of you, it seems we will need a deadline for the content for the book.  I think the book itself should probably start with some history of Goldie and Robert family backgrounds with as much genealogy as possible through their life as we can describe or remember or get information.  Then the book could go on through with all of our lives and memories through memories related to Mom’s (Goldie) demise and funeral.  What do you think?

What do you think should be the deadline?  Is January 30, 2009 too soon or too late?

For the book, remember anybody can give their information in any format and in any order they want.  So if some would prefer to just send emails to me, I will add them to the blog for others to see and maybe add extra input on that memory.  Also, if some would prefer to just write their memories on paper and send them to me, I will transcribe them.  Or.. if some want to record them on audio tape or on their computer, that is ok too.

I think I will set a page or category for everyone who contributes and a tag for everyone we mention.  Does that sound reasonable.  Or do you think it is better to put a page for everyone mentioned.  These things can be adjusted.

My last thought and plea is that everyone have fun with this.  Please don’t take this as Myrtle’s book.  Please don’t find offense if it looks like some body or some incident is not covered.  It is up to all of us to make a comment and let me know if I miss something or forget something.  It is all in fun and family spirit and no one will be slighted, intentionally.  So if anyone has a thought or desire about what or how the book or blog should unfold, or you think I am doing something wrong, PLEASE let me know.  It will not hurt my feelings.  If it affects everyone, I will get a concensus.
